With games at Colorado and San Francisco next week, Johnny Damon will most likely play first base because there is no DH.
"Whatever the team needs, that's what I'll do," Damon said. "There's been lots of guys who've played first base who I think I can move around better than. The number of plays I'd have to look forward to would be tough - getting throws from all angles and being the cutoff man. Those are things I'll have to focus on" (source). However, he loves being the DH, according to this article. The Jason Giambi injury seems to be the best thing that has happened to this team this year. It gets Damon out of center field, allows Melky Cabrera to take his place and gets Giambi's lack of speed off of the base paths.
The Doug Mientkiewicz injury hasn't hurt the team that much, either. Slick-fielding Miguel Cairo is now able to play first base more regularly. Speaking of Mientkiewicz, he had wrist surgery yesterday.
