Game 94 notes: Yankees lose 3-2

Tough day at the Stadium today. The Yankees scored two early runs and weren't able to score again. Chien-Ming Wang had a shutout through six innings. He then gave up four hits and three runs in the top of the seventh as the Yankees lost the final game of the series to the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 3-2. They won the series three games to one.

Wang gave up three runs in 7 1-3 innings and was handed the loss. He struck out three and walked none. Dustin McGowan started for Toronto and gave up two runs over seven innings. Jeremy Accardo didn't balk in any runs today and got the save.

Some notes from the game:

  • Johnny Damon is now 0 for his last 17. He can't be in the lineup anymore if this is going to continue.
  • The Yankees' two runs came off a Bobby Abreu double in the first inning. He now has 51 RBIs on the season.
  • Hideki Matsui extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his 1-4 afternoon.
  • Wil Nieves went 0-3 and is batting .125 on the season. There have to be better options at the backup catcher position, no?
  • Luis Vizcaino pitched a solid ninth inning. He's been used a lot lately, so I hope Torre isn't planning on burning him out again.
  • The Yankees only had five hits today. It's tough to win games that way.
The Yankees are now 48-45. They are 7.5 games back of Boston in the AL East and 6.5 games back of Cleveland in the Wild Card, pending tonight's outcomes.
