The Grapefruit League opener proved to be a big day for both Shelley Duncan and Alex Rodriguez, as they both homered off of Philadelphia Phillies pitching in the Yankees' 9-3 victory Saturday afternoon.
In the first inning, after consecutive two-out singles by Bobby Abreu and Rodriguez, Duncan, playing first base, hit a three-run shot to left field.
In the third inning, Derek Jeter doubled and Abreu singled, advancing Jeter to third. Abreu then stole second after Rodriguez struck out. Duncan then doubled to right, driving home another two runs for his fourth and fifth RBI of the day.
In the top of the fifth inning, Rodriguez added his home run, a solo shot to left center after Jeter was picked off of second base. Jesus Montero and Wilson Betemit also chipped in with home runs.
Chien-Ming Wang pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.
