Roster set, as Pettitte heads to DL

After tonight's 5-3 loss to the Florida Marlins, the Yankees finalized the roster.

Nick Green, Scott Patterson, Darrell Rasner, Kei Igawa, Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras were all either reassigned or optioned. Due to Green's reassignment, Wilson Betemit will be the only backup middle infielder on the 25-man roster.

The biggest news is that Andy Pettitte was retroactively placed on the 15-day disabled list. As a result, he will be eligible to return next Saturday.

The bullpen will consist of Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, Kyle Farnsworth, LaTroy Hawkins, Billy Traber, Ross Ohlendorf, Jonathan Albaladejo and Brian Bruney.

Someone will have to be demoted once Pettitte returns and Joe Girardi stressed that they will have a long reliever on the roster eventually. It didn't help that Jeff Karstens was also placed on the disabled list.

So here is where the 25-man roster stands:

I like the make up of the roster. I really hope Pettitte can stay healthy all year and this isn't the start of many DL stints.

Do you think Bruney, Albaladejo or Ohlendorf will be sent down in favor of Pettitte on Saturday?

I'm also a little surprised that there's' no long man. Not that I mind, but Girardi seemed a bit dedicated to the idea.

I have a feeling it will be Albaladejo.

With eight relievers right now, I could see why they didn't want to take a long man right away.

I feel badly for Patterson. While he didn't have a lot of experience, he pitched extremely well this spring. It seems like Girardi has a little Torre in him.

I hope it's Albaladejo. Ohlendorf has really proved himself. I feel bad for Patterson too, but it also seems reasonable considering he's never pitched above AA. I'm sure Bruney will suck and they'll send I'm down for Patterson eventually.
