Who would've thought that Mike Mussina would hold a share of the American League lead in wins at this stage in the season? Not I, certainly.
After winning his fifth-straight start, Mussina is now in a seven-way tie for the league-lead in wins with six. Teammate Chien-Ming Wang is also among those seven.
In these five starts, Mussina has a 2.76 ERA (nine earned runs in 29 1-3 innings). He has also only given up 27 hits while striking out 17 and walking three over that time.
While the offense has been a disappointment through the first 41 games, Mussina has been a pleasant surprise. He has seemed to reinvent himself, and as long as he stays away from Manny Ramirez, it could be smooth sailing for the foreseeable future.
"Now, what is this site about, how Joe Torre ruined pitchers' arms? Is that it?"
