Your thoughts?

My first thought is: why was Jason Varitek and his .661 OPS included as an American League reserve? What a joke. I hope he doesn't play.

I'm also disappointed that Mike Mussina wasn't selected. His 11 wins certainly was deserving of a spot.

I like Moose too, but I don't understand the cry for him to make the All-Star game. All the starting pitchers that made the all-star team are having better seasons than Moose, so therefore he doesn't deserve a spot on the team. Which one of those guys deserves it less than Moose? They have all been better than him.

And even if a spot opened up for him, there are still other pitchers left off the team that are having better or similar seasons to Moose - Hernandez, Lackey, Greinke, Danks, Harden, Beckett, Shields, Garza, and Marcum.

Now, if you want to argue that a guy like Sherrill shouldn't be there, I'd totally agree with that. But I'm assuming he would be replaced with another closer, like Jenks or Morrow. And even if he wasn't replaced with a closer, the idea that Moose is the main front-runner for the next pitching spot is pretty far-fetched in my estimation. He's done well, but he doesn't deserve to be an all-star.

Good post. Maybe I'm a little biased with Mussina, but what he's doing at this age (reinventing himself, essentially) has been remarkable.

I think Danks is another pitcher who most deserved to be selected.
