Pettitte to return

According to the Daily News' John Harper, Andy Pettitte will return to the Yankees.

Sources said Pettitte will receive a base salary of $5-6 million. Incentives based on innings pitched and days on the roster could increase the value of his deal to $12 million.

This deal is good for both sides. I'm happy.

Same, same. This only increases their chances of playing in October.

Good for Pettitte, who didn't take the Torre line of thinking of refusing to perform under an incentive based contract. I had wondered if the previous $10 million offer was a take it or leave it proposition. But since both sides were still willing to negotiate, the outcome seems mutually beneficial enough. Just as long as we get vintage Pettitte, and not the one that tapered off and the end of last season!

Agreed with both posts. This definitely strengthens the rotation, and it'll be good to a pitcher motivated by reaching incentives.
