Yankees announce Teixeira, old No. 25 finds a new home

Mark Teixeira just finished speaking at the podium and is officially a Yankee. For those who couldn't watch, he will wear No. 25. I doubt there will be the same backlash there was when LaTroy Hawkins wore No. 21 for a time last year.

Teixeira appeared very excited and happy to be there. Michael Kay made a point of saying some acquisitions seem lost at these press conferences, but Teixeira took everything in stride and had a big smile on his face while doing so.

I really, really can't wait for this season to begin.

Meanwhile, the old No. 25, Jason Giambi, has agreed to a one-year deal with his old team. His contract with the Oakland A's is for $4.5 million and has a $5 million option for 2010 ($1 million buyout).

Tex was great. How about those softball questions though!

Yeah, the questions in your post were much tougher. The reporters should've followed your lead.

I was half-expecting Teixeira to use number 26, following the unofficial tradition of sequential uniform numbers post-Donnie. Didn't realize he idolized Donnie like Tino before him until recently (both had the number 23 on their previous teams). That makes it all the better to have him!

Oh, well. At least I can get some more mileage out of my replica Giambi road jersey. I bought that back in 2002 when he signed. But since he never helped win any championships and got caught up in the Balco scandal, I thought it was a bad investment! All I would have to do is remove his name and people will think I have a Teixeira jersey. :)

I have a Giambi T-shirt...it's now a collector's item.

I knew he was a fan of Mattingly's, but I didn't know he'd go to Orioles games in a Yankees hat.

Teixeira seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and I think he'll be terrific here.
