"Now, what is this site about, how Joe Torre ruined pitchers' arms? Is that it?"

Proctor to have elbow surgery

I totally didn't see this coming.

Scott Proctor will have elbow surgery to repair a partially-torn flexor tendon and will have a bone spur in the back of his elbow shaved down, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick. Sounds fun, doesn't it?

Joe Torre gets the last laugh, I guess.

Scott Proctor resurfaces

Scott Proctor was activated from the 60-day disabled list and was called up by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

His last appearance was on June 21 and he has been recovering from an injured elbow since.

In three innings for Triple-A Las Vegas, Proctor struck out five and walked none. He is now back with Joe Torre once and for all.

Proctor on TBS

During the rain delay, I'm watching the Braves/Dodgers game on TBS.

Scott Proctor was just brought in with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Proctor struck out pinch hitter Matt Diaz and induced a fly out to end the inning.

Meanwhile, the Yankees have Wilson Betemit on the disabled list and the bullpen is still a mess. At least Proctor could be counted on to give the team innings when needed.

Update - 4:35 p.m.: Proctor came out for the eighth inning and wasn't as successful. He gave up a one-out double, followed by a two-out triple and a two-run home run by Mark Teixeira. He now gave up a double, but Joe Torre is still sticking with him. He followed up the double with an RBI single. After a visit by Torre, Proctor is remaining in the game.

Proctor's awful night

Last night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Scott Proctor imploded.

He gave up two home runs in one inning, totaling four earned runs. He also gave up four hits and walked one batter.

These were the first runs and hits he's given up this season.

Through 3 2-3 innings, Proctor is 0-0 with a 9.82 ERA. He has three walks and one strikeout.

I wonder if Proctor is just trying to sabotage Joe Torre's stay in Los Angeles. Time will tell.

Proctor in the game

With runners on first and second and two out, Scott Proctor induced a fly ball to get out of the inning to preserve the Dodgers' 5-0 lead in the seventh inning.

Much has been made about Proctor's reunion with Joe Torre, so he's getting an early start this season.

Since my last Scott Proctor Update, Proctor has pitched five innings, have given up four hits, have given up two earned runs, has walked three batters and has struck out four batters.

Yesterday, he got the victory in a three-inning effort against the Washington Nationals.

He is now 5-5 with a 3.91 ERA on the season.

Scott Proctor Update

It's been a while since I updated you, my loyal readers, on Scott Proctor's activities in Los Angeles.

He has appeared in 12 games, pitching 14 1-3 innings. He has a record of 2-0, has allowed 10 hits, has given up seven earned runs, has struck out eight and has walked five. He has also given up three home runs. This equates to an ERA of 4.40. Overall, he is 4-5 with an ERA of 3.93, combining his time in New York and Los Angeles.

I miss you, Scottie.

Wilson Betemit, the player the Yankees got for Proctor, is batting .243 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 37 at-bats. He has also struck out 16 times while walking only three times, however. He has been a spark off the bench and has played very nicely in the field.

The Yankees may be fairing a little better in this trade than the Dodgers are.

In 7 2-3 innings pitched as a Dodgers, he has given up one earned run and has struck out five batters. He also walked three batters and has given up three hits.

Scott Proctor Update 8/5/07

Scott Proctor made his third appearance for the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight, as he faced the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In two innings (the eighth and ninth innings), he struck out two batters and walked one. He threw 33 pitches for 23 strikes.

He walked Chris Young to lead off the eighth inning. He promptly stole second but only advanced as far as third base.

In the ninth inning, he retired the side in order, including striking out the final two batters, Mark Reynolds and Justin Upton.

Scott Proctor Update 8/2/07

Scott Proctor actually threw more than one pitch tonight for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He just finished up a 1-2-3 inning against the San Francisco Giants. He struck out Guillermo Rodriguez, got Barry Zito to fly out to left and induced a groundout to third to end the inning.

He threw 10 pitches for eight strikes. I do not know if he'll go back for a second inning of work or not.

UPDATE: Proctor ended up going out for a second inning, and only retired one batter. Overall, he gave up one hit, one earned run, walked two, struck out one and threw 27 pitches for 14 strikes.

He faced Barry Bonds and intentionally walked him. Earlier this year, Proctor gave up home run No. 749 to Bonds when the Yankees played San Francisco.

Proctor loving SoCal

Scott Proctor is pretty excited to join his new team.

From the Los Angeles Times via Was Watching:

"I'm excited," said Proctor, traded from the second-place Yankees to the then division-leading Dodgers just before the trade deadline Tuesday. "Any time you get a chance to be on a first-place team, that's exciting. Hopefully I can pick up some key situations and get [some] big outs."

Manager Grady Little said Proctor, 2-5 with a 3.81 ERA in 52 games with New York, will be used in middle relief.

"I let it be known to him that he's going to get used a lot," said Little, whose club sent Wilson Betemit to the Yankees to get Proctor. "He'll be a big help for us in that part of the bullpen. Right now we're scuffling a little bit but we will get it back on track and maybe this guy will be just what we need to get it going."

Proctor, a 30-year-old right-hander, wore No. 43 in New York but never asked for that number -- which belongs to injured reliever Yhency Brazoban -- with the Dodgers.

"It's just a number," said Proctor, who will wear No. 45. "I'm just hoping to fit in anyway I can. And whatever I'm asked to do, do it the best I can" (source).
It'll be weird seeing Proctor not wearing his trademark No. 43.

Meanwhile, Proctor made his Dodger debut last night. After throwing one pitch, the runner at first was caught trying to steal second base. He was then pinch hit when the Dodgers were up.

We here at Scott Proctor's Arm wish Mr. Proctor all the best in his future endeavors.
