I delve into the standings after all of the relevant Sunday games have been completed to track the Yankees' progress over the week that just ended.
Here is an updated look at the American League East standings and the American League Wild Card standings:
AL East
Boston Red Sox | 92-64 | -- |
New York Yankees | 90-65 | 1.5 |
Toronto Blue Jays | 78-77 | 13.5 |
Baltimore Orioles | 66-89 | 25.5 |
Tampa Bay Devil Rays | 64-92 | 28.0 |
Wild Card
New York Yankees | 90-65 | -- |
Detroit Tigers | 85-71 | 5.5 |

Since the last look at the standings, the Yankees went 5-1 and gained 3.0 games in the AL East. The Red Sox went 2-4 over that same period.
In the Wild Card standings, the Yankees increased their lead by 3.0 games.
The Red Sox magic number to win the AL East is six (down three from last week).

Hey, thanks for stopping by yesterday!
It's amazing what the Yankees have done this year...making this a September to remember, certainly!
Um...double check that magic number in the wildcard, dude. I think it's down to 2, not 3.
Good call...should've proofread.
This has been a roller coaster of a season, Rebecca. Your blog is very good...keep up the great work!
