Off-day Monday

The Yankees will not be playing a baseball game today. This is something that hasn't been said since March 31 when the Opening Day game at Yankee Stadium was rained out. The next day, April 1, was a scheduled off-day, but the Yankees played at 7:05 that night.

Usually, I hate off-days. But the Yankees need one. They have played each of the last 20 days, going 10-10. They have survived awful starts by Phil Hughes, Mike Mussina and Ian Kennedy. They have survived injuries to Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada. They have survived an extended team-wide slump. Hopefully they will survive Alex Rodriguez's quad injury and future paternity leave. All things considered, they are extremely lucky to be 10-10. For some perspective, the 2007 Yankees only won nine April games.

The off-day allows for more preparation and more rest. After that, the work picks up again. They will play 13-straight games, with only seven of those coming on the road, a welcome change from the early April schedule.

I'll be around if any news breaks today. Enjoy the off-day. It looks like it should be a nice day outside.

You should set up a blogger roundtable to see what the little A-Rod will be called.
