Matsui to begin rehab Thursday

Hideki Matsui is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday, according to Ed Price.

He will either play for the GCL Yankees or Class-A Tampa depending on the weather.

If he can get through the rehab process without re-aggravating his knee injury, his return would be an obvious boost to the lineup.

He could slide into the designated hitter role, allowing the ineffective Melky Cabrera to be benched and either Xavier Nady or Johnny Damon to play center field, with the other playing left field.

It's good to know everybody is making progress. But when will we see Carl Pavano back on the mound?
