Mussina wins 20th

For the first time in his 18-year career, Mike Mussina won his 20th game of the season. he pitched six shutout innings, leaving his season ERA at 3.37 at the age of 39.

This removes an "almost" from Mussina's career, as he had won 19 games on two previous occasions.

It seemed that Joe Girardi and the Yankees badly wanted this game. After the bullpen allowed two runs in the eighth inning, Girardi brought in Mariano Rivera with two outs. Rivera, as you know, will probably have surgery done on his shoulder.

Congratulations, Mr. Mussina. It's been a heck of a season.

Congrats to the Moose for reaching a much sought out milestone. This was the one thing left of this season I wanted to come to fruition. He might not be not most dominating pitcher ever, but he has been consistent with a respectable W-L record. I hope, barring retirement, this makes him a possible HOF candidate one day.

His chase for 20 was definitely one of the few things that had me keep paying attention to the waning days of the season. Moose has had some bad luck as a Yankee, so I'm very happy he was able to get it on the last day of the season in Fenway Park.
