Mussina wins seventh Gold Glove

Mike Mussina was awarded his seventh Gold Glove of his career this afternoon. It was his third as a Yankee and first since 2003.

Joining him in the American League were C Joe Mauer, 1B Carlos Pena, 2B Dustin Pedroia, 3B Adrian Beltre, SS Michael Young, OF Torii Hunter, OF Grady Sizemore and OF Ichiro Suzuki.

Congratulations to the Moose.

There has been no word on Mussina's plans for the future, except that he officially filed for free agency.

Is it that hard to hit a sac fly?

This is getting ridiculous. The Yankees left another runner at third with less than two outs, as Johnny Damon popped out with the bases loaded.

On Opening Night, Damon led off and inning with a triple and was unable to score.

Leaving runners on base in these situations will likely come back to haunt the Yankees.

Meanwhile, the Rays have taken the lead on a sac fly (what a concept). Shelley Duncan threw the ball away which led to the Rays' first run. B.J. Upton grounded into an RBI fielder's choice, as Carlos Pena was thrown out a second (replays showed he was out at second). Jonny Gomes hit the go-ahead sac fly to give the Rays the 2-1 lead.

If Melky Cabrera was in center field (his suspension was reduced to two games and began serving it last night), the play at home would have been more interesting.

Jeter, Rodriguez and Posada win Silver Sluggers

Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez were rewarded with American League Silver Slugger Awards, recognizing their offensive contributions in helping the Yankees to a 94-victory season and the AL Wild Card.

Louisville Slugger's Silver Slugger Award winners were determined in balloting of Major League coaches and managers who were asked to vote for the players they felt were the best offensive producers at each position in both leagues in 2007. (MLB.com)

Stop using Farnsworth in a big spot

This is getting ridiculous. Once again, Kyle Farnsworth made a two-run game turn into a one-run game.

Yesterday, in a 5-3 game, he gave up a solo home run to Carlos Pena.

Today, in a 7-5 game, he gave up an RBI double to Ty Wigginton.

We all know Farnsworth is terrible in consecutive games. We also all know that he is terrible in the big spot. Stop using him when it counts!
