One more to go

The Tampa Bay Rays are one win away from reaching the World Series after defeating the Red Sox 13-4 tonight.

The Red Sox have been down at least 3-1 before, and have come back to win the series in 2004 and 2007 and eventually, unfortunately, the World Series.

Hopefully the Rays are not like the 2004 Yankees and 2007 Indians.

Let me tell you, it's extremely sweet watching the cocky Red Sox fans around school have a quick change of heart regarding their team. I'm sure many television sets were turned off after the Rays' five-run sixth inning tonight. The giant television in my common room was one of them, and I had a huge smile on my face when it was switched over from TBS to ESPN.

Go Rays. Go Evan Longoria. Go B.J. Upton. One more win is all I'm asking.

Rays look to eliminate Chicago's other team

Game 4 of the Tampa Bay Rays/Chicago White Sox is underway, and B.J. Upton has already put the Rays on top in the first inning. A Rays victory will put them in the ALCS.

I have already declared the Rays my team this October, so obviously I am very proud of them. I have a rooting interest in Evan Longoria, and they are generally a likable team (sans Jonny Gomes).

Oh, by the way, let's go Angels. The last thing I want to see this season is a Red Sox/Dodgers World Series. My brain would explode.

Kennedy has a bruised hip; other updates

Ian Kennedy has a bruised hip resulting from getting hit by a line drive off of the bat of Jason Bartlett.

Manager Joe Girardi doesn't believe Kennedy will miss a start, but Kennedy wants to wait to see what it feels like tomorrow morning.

From Lisa Kennelly: "It kind of sent a little shock toward my calf," Kennedy said. "It's fine. A little sensitive."

Derek Jeter says his quad feels fine. He even beat out a ground ball for an infield hit tonight.

Jorge Posada threw before the game. Peter Abraham said Posada threw 40 times from 125 feets and 20 times from 75 feet. Posada isn't sure when he'll catch again. In the meantime, Chad Moeller went 1-4 in his first game as a Yankee and threw out B.J. Upton trying to steal third base.

Is it that hard to hit a sac fly?

This is getting ridiculous. The Yankees left another runner at third with less than two outs, as Johnny Damon popped out with the bases loaded.

On Opening Night, Damon led off and inning with a triple and was unable to score.

Leaving runners on base in these situations will likely come back to haunt the Yankees.

Meanwhile, the Rays have taken the lead on a sac fly (what a concept). Shelley Duncan threw the ball away which led to the Rays' first run. B.J. Upton grounded into an RBI fielder's choice, as Carlos Pena was thrown out a second (replays showed he was out at second). Jonny Gomes hit the go-ahead sac fly to give the Rays the 2-1 lead.

If Melky Cabrera was in center field (his suspension was reduced to two games and began serving it last night), the play at home would have been more interesting.

One home run every four innings

That is Kei Igawa's calling card.

In the first inning of game one of the doubleheader, Igawa gave up a solo shot to B.J. Upton. Upton now has three home runs in 10 innings in this series.

Igawa has given up 14 home runs in 52 2-3 innings pitched this season. He'll at least be in the game for a couple of more innings, so look to see that number increase.

UPDATE: 1:40 p.m.: 15 home runs in 53 2-3 innings pitched.
