3:34 p.m.: He shuts the door in the ninth. Yankees win 5-1 to improve to 2-0 in Spring Training. Yay.
3:30 p.m.: Jonathan Albaladejo in to close.
3:20 p.m.: 1-2-3 for Melancon. Bottom of the eighth now.
3:16 p.m.: Mark Melancon is in. He's the reason why I'm still watching this game.
3:09 p.m.: Duncan three-run home run. 5-1 Yankees.
2:58 p.m.: Gardner runs down a ball in center. He had a chance for a double play at second base, but couldn't make a good throw. Somewhere Melky silently cheered.
Cox gets out of the inning without allowing any more runs.
2:57 p.m.: Cox isn't fooling anyone. Three straight singles for the Rays.
2:53 p.m.: Jon Weber hits a single off the glove of new shortstop Eduardo Nunez to drive in a run. 2-1 Yankees.
2:47 p.m.: J.B. Cox is now pitching.
2:44 p.m.: Yankees go down in order.
2:39 p.m.: Quick inning. Ensberg hit a single but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
2:36 p.m.: Damaso Marte in the game. Cody Ransom at first, Angel Berroa at second, Doug Bernier at third, Colin Curtis in left, Brett Gardner in center, Shelley Duncan in right, Francisco Cervelli behind the plate. Jeter is still in the game.
2:33 p.m.: Cabrera chops out to short to end the inning. This game is flying by.
2:30 p.m.: Posada hit a ground-rule double to center. Kapler got turned around a few times and the ball bounced on the track and over the wall. Nady scores. 2-0 Yankees.
2:29 p.m.: Xavier Nady hits a ground-rule double with one out in the fifth.
2:26 p.m.: Quick inning for Bruney.
2:20 p.m.: Brian Bruney is in the game.
2:16 p.m.: A-Rod grounds into a double play to end the inning.
2:15 p.m.: Teixeira hits a one-out single to right. More boos for A-Rod.
2:10 p.m.: Coke allows a single but nothing else. 1-0 Yankees heading to the bottom of the fourth.
1:59 p.m.: The next three Yankees go down in order. Heading to the top of the fourth.
1:55 p.m.: Jorge Posada hits the first pitch he sees from Chad Orvella over the right field wall. 1-0 Yankees.
1:53 p.m.: Cano makes a pretty play, fielding the ball in the outfield grass and firing to Teixeira. 1-2-3 for Coke in the third.
1:49 p.m.: Phil Coke is in the game. The other Phil, Hughes, is done for the day.
1:46 p.m.: The Yankees go down 1-2-3 again. Robinson Cano struck out.
1:43 p.m.: Strikes out swinging. More boos and applause (most likely for the fact that he struck out).
1:42 p.m.: Audible boos, but mostly applause, for Rodriguez.
1:40 p.m.: Hughes walks a batter, but gets out of the inning unscathed. Rodriguez to lead off.
1:34 p.m.: Alex Rodriguez fields a broken-bat grounder, and Teixeira makes a nice stretch to nab Gabe Kapler at first. It's exciting having a defender of Teixeira's ability at first base.
1:31 p.m.: The Yankees go quietly in the first. Damon popped out to a leaping Ensberg, and Jeter grounded out weakly. Teixeira got a nice hand, but struck out swinging on a pitch out of the strike zone.
1:27 p.m.: Hughes survives the first inning, getting Morgan Ensberg to fly out to right and Ben Zobrist to pop out to short. Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira due up.
1:21 p.m.: Hughes has hit two batters this inning. Yikes.
1:20 p.m.: Phil Hughes is consistently throwing 92 mph in the first inning, and just struck out Carl Crawford swinging on one of those fastballs
I will post updates during today's game in this post. The newest updates will be at the top.

Game 8 Liveblog: Yankees at Royals
First Inning
- Robinson Cano swung and missed a pitch in the dirt to strike out.
- Bobby Abreu, coming off of a 3-3 night last night, grounded into a double play, making Johnny Damon's lead off walk useless.
- Joey Gathright is in to lead off. Phil Hughes' velocity has been a major topic of discussion so far, so keep on the lookout for that. Gathright hits a single to center field to start the Royals' threat.
- Hughes hit 91 m.p.h. on his fastball to Mark Grudzielanek according to the YES gun. Gathright, who is extremely fast, stole second base on a pitch out. This is his third steal of the season. Jorge Posada's throw bounced into to Cano. Grudzielanek grounds to short on a hanging breaking ball. Gathright took off on the pitch and advanced to third easily.
- Mark Teahen doubles into the left field gap between Damon and Melky Cabrera to score Gathright. 1-0 Royals.
- Jose Guillen is up. Hughes is consistently hitting only 91 m.p.h. with his fastball. Guillen pops out to Betemit for the second out of the inning.
- Billy Butler strikes out on a 2-2 fastball at the knees.
- Alex Rodriguez strikes out looking on a pitch that may have been inside.
- Hideki Matsui is making Bannister work. He has fouled off a few pitches in a row, working the count full. He hits a ball down the first base line that was fielded by a diving Ross Gload for the second out.
- Posada singles to right to keep the Yankees' at-bat going.
- Jason Giambi walks on a full count, so it's first and second with two out. Great, Posada and Giambi on the basepaths.
- Wilson Betemit singles to right, barely scoring Posada, who, for some reason, didn't slide. 1-1. Posada was running like it was in slow motion. Giambi and Betemit each took an extra base on the throw.
- Cabrera walks on four-straight pitches to load the bases with two out.
- Damon has six career grand slams. He works the count to 2-0, as Bannister has thrown six-straight balls. 3-0 count now. Bannister gets a strike call on a pitch that could've easily been called outside. Now Damon fouls off a pitch to make it a full count. Bannister throws a pitch low for the bases loaded walk. 2-1 Yankees.
- Girardi is unhappy with the umpire's strike zone. Cano was a few inches away from a double, barely rolling the ball foul. He now works the count full. Ron Mahay is warming in the Royals' bullpen. Cano strikes out swinging to end the inning.
- Hughes was sitting for a while. Hopefully the long layoff won't affect him.
- Alex Gordon singles to right, but Abreu misplayed it, allowing him to take second. Abreu took his eye off the ball and was getting ready to throw before he ever had it.
- Gload grounds out to Giambi. He had to flip to Hughes who barely beat Gload to the bag for the out. Gordon advances to third with one out. Let's see if the Royals are better at hitting sac flies than the Yankees are.
- John Buck does indeed hit a sac fly. He flew to Cabrera in medium-center and he made a good throw but was too far away to make it close. 2-2.
- Tony Pena Jr. is making Hughes work. He eventually draws a walk on a 3-2 curveball - the ninth pitch of the at-bat. The ball was slightly low, apparently. Girardi does not look pleased.
- With Gathright batting, Pena Jr. steals second. He would have been tagged out, but Betemit dropped the ball. Gathright gets hit by a breaking ball, putting two runners on for the Royals with two out.
- Grudzielanek walks on four-straight pitches, as pitching coach Dave Eiland comes out to visit Hughes. This is his second walk of the inning and now the bases are loaded.
- Teahen couldn't check his swing on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning. Hughes has thrown 56 pitches through only two innings of work.
- Bannister begins the inning at 54 pitches. Abreu singles to center to start things off.
- Rodriguez strikes out looking for the second time this game. Rodriguez was unhappy, but the pitch was right at the knees and may have caught the outside corner.
- Matsui lines a pitch to center and it falls in right in front of Gathright. It is now first and second with out one.
- Posada flies out to deep center. Abreu tags and takes third base, while Matsui stays at first.
- Giambi grounds out weakly to second to end the inning.
- Guillen pops out to Cabrera for the first out. It only took two pitches to retire Guillen, and that's exactly what Hughes needs if he wants to be around long this afternoon.
- Butler lines a pitch to center for a one-out single. It looked like it may have been headed for the gap, but Cabrera hustled over to cut it off.
- Gordon hits a slow grounder to Cano, advancing Butler to second. The ball just seemed to die on the infield grass.
- Gload walks on a 3-2 pitch. I guess Hughes wants to labor each inning. I'd be surprised if he makes it through five.
- Buck works the count to 3-0 and then fouls off a pitch. Buck walks to load the bases. Hughes has thrown 22 pitches this inning and this is his fourth walk of the game. He is at 78 pitches and he still needs to get the third out of the inning.
- Pena Jr. hits a line drive to center than hung up just long enough for Cabrera to make a shoe-string catch to end the inning. Hughes left the breaking ball hanging and got very lucky.
This is a painfully long game so far.
- Betemit strikes out for the first out of the inning. The ball was down the middle and Betemit swung over it.
- Cabrera fouls out to the catcher for the second out.
- Damon is up now. He has two walks and an RBI. Damon singles to center on the third pitch of the at-bat. He's been swinging a much better bat these last few games.
- Cano hits a hard grounder to second that was fielded nicely by Grudzielanek. Despite allowing the single, these was by far the easiest inning for Bannister.
- Gathright slaps a single to left to lead things off for the Royals.
- Gathright steals another base on a pitch out. He ran into Betemit during the throw. Posada is now 0-6 in throwing out baserunners thus far. Gathright now stole third base with no throw. Grudzielanek lines a single to right to score Gathright. 3-2 Royals.
- That's it for Hughes. He only pitched 3+ innings and threw 87 pitches. Not good at all. Ross Ohlendorf is in now.

Game 7 Liveblog: Rays at Yankees
I'm finally around to watch a game, so I feel like doing some in-game updates.
If, for whatever reason, you can't watch the game, keep following this post for updates until around 9:00.
First Inning
Mike Mussina gets the Rays to go down in order on eight pitches, including striking out Carlos Pena.
Johnny Damon is set to leadoff. Hopefully tonight is the night the lineup gets out of their collective funk.
- Damon leads off with a single. Great start for the offense.
- Derek Jeter grounds into a fielder's choice, forcing out Damon at second. If it was hit any harder, it would have been a double play.
- Bobby Abreu hits a line drive that finds its way over the right field wall for a two-run home run. 2-0 Yankees.
- Alex Rodriguez grounds out to third for the second out of the inning.
- Hideki Matsui grounds out to first to end the inning.
Mussina pitches another 1-2-3 inning, getting two pop outs and a ground out.
- Robinson Cano grounds to second on the second pitch of hit at-bat.
- Wilson Betemit strikes out. Where is Morgan Ensberg?
- Melky Cabrera hits a lazy fly ball to left to end the inning. I hope the first inning wasn't the only offensive burst of the night.
Great, Jeter is out of the game, apparently aggravating something while running to first base. Betemit slides over to short, and Ensberg comes in to play first. He's been found.
- Jonny Gomes, replacing a scratched Cliff Floyd, hits a solo home run to left field to break up the perfect game. 2-1 Yankees.
- Mussina allows a one-out walk to Jason Bartlett.
- With Akinori Iwamura up, Bartlett steals second base. Iwamura eventually grounds out to second, advancing Bartlett to third.
- Carl Crawford grounds out to Cano to end the Rays' threat.
- Jose Molina doubles to right field to lead off the bottom of the second.
- Damon hits a useless pop up to second. Molina is still on second with one out.
- Ensberg, batting in Jeter's No. 2 spot, walks up to "Come Together" by The Beatles. I love him already. Ensberg, whom I stopped loving, pops out for the second out.
- It was just announced by Michael Kay that Jeter has a strained left quadriceps. Just lovely.
- Abreu singles to center. Wow, a two-out RISP hit! Too bad it's Molina running, as he had to be held at third.
- Rodriguez grounds into a fielder's choice to end the inning. I knew two consecutive two-out hits would be too much to ask for.
Mussina works an easy fourth inning, throwing only six pitches, and has retired the last five batters he's faced. He's at 44 on the evening so far.
- Matsui flies out to deep left center for the first out of the inning.
- Cano hits a line drive that is caught by a lunging Eric Hinske for the second out - very nice play.
- Betemit grounds out to short on one pitch to end the inning. Hammel threw four pitches this inning.
- Willy Aybar strikes out swinging for the first out. This is Mussina's second strike out and sixth-straight batter retired.
- Gomes strikes out swinging. There was an appeal and the first base umpire punched him out.
- Mike DiFelice doubles to left center on a two-strike pitch. The throw from Cabrera came in to the third base side of the bag and DiFelice was in standing up.
- Apparently opponents hit .347 with two outs and runners in scoring position against Mussina last year. That's excellent. Mussina and Molina (the new M & M Boys) are having trouble with the signs. Bartlett flies out to Cabrera to end this inning.
- Cabrera grounds out to short to lead off the bottom of the fifth.
- Molina grounds out to the pitcher for a quick second out. The offense is falling asleep again.
- Damon hits a line drive in between Bartlett and B.J. Upton for a two-out single, his second hit of the game.
- Ensberg grounds out to Aybar. Pena made a beautiful scoop. This game is flying.
- I just heard Kay mention the "Martini Glass defense" for the first time this season. Baseball is now officially back! Keep in mind that this is only the third game I've been able to watch live. He could've said this 17 or 18 times already this season.
- With two outs and Pena up, Cano makes a bad throw to Ensberg on a ground out. Cano had a lot of time but bounced the throw and Ensberg couldn't handle it.
- Upton grounds into a fielder's choice to end the inning. Abreu is set to lead things off for New York in the bottom half of the inning.
- Abreu leads off with a triple off the top of the wall. He is now a double shy of a cycle.
- Rodriguez singles to right to drive in Abreu. 3-1 Yankees. I love when they get RISP hits.
- Matsui doubles on a full count, driving in Rodriguez. 4-1 Yankees.
- Cano breaks hit bat while grounding out to short. Matsui advances to third with one out.
- Betemit strikes out for the second out. That's another runner left at third with less than two outs. Why is he still on this team?
- Cabrera is being intentionally walked.
- Molina grounds into a fielder's choice on the first pitch.
Currently, the Yankees lead the Rays 4-1 through six innings. Mussina has allowed two hits and one earned run, while striking out three and walking one batter.

Liveblog: Blue Jays at Yankees
It's raining and the tarp is out on the field. The Yankees have announced that the start of the game will be delayed, but the weather will supposedly improve.
If the game does start, I will have updates in this post.
Update - 1:00 p.m.: Rain delay programming is currently airing on the YES Network. It is not known when first pitch will occur.
Update - 1:30 p.m.: The ESPN announcers just said that there is a window of good weather in the 2:00 hour. As of now, the tarp is still on the field and no one is warming up.
Update - 2:30 p.m.: The game has been called. It will be made up tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., weather permitting, of course.

Liveblog: Red Sox at Yankees
The game is on television, so I'll give some updates for those sitting in offices:
First Inning
Andy Pettitte retired the Red Sox in order, including striking out David Ortiz to end the inning. He looked very good and didn't show any signs of arm problems.
Bartolo Colon struck out Johnny Damon to strike out looking for the first out. Derek Jeter grounded a pitch up the middle for a one-out single. Bobby Abreu made Colon work, as he threw nine pitches, eventually drawing a walk. Jason Giambi struck out looking on a breaking ball. Jorge Posada walks on five pitches to load the bases. Despite having control issues, Colon has been throwing at 93 m.p.h. consistently. Hideki Matsui hit a two-run ground-rule double to left field. 2-0 Yankees. Robinson Cano followed with a two-run single to the left side. 4-0 Yankees.
Colon is out of the game after throwing 42 pitches. Julian Tavarez gets Melky Cabrera to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Second Inning
Wilson Betemit, playing third base, made a wild throw to first, but Giambi was there to tag out a running Mike Lowell. Good thing they still have Alex Rodriguez. Pettitte walked Jason Varitek with two outs. Pettitte has been around 90 m.p.h. with his fastball so far. He retired Jacoby Ellsbury to end the inning.
Tavarez hit Jeter in the elbow, prompting boos from Legends Field. Abreu got his revenge by hitting a two-run home run over the right field wall. 6-0 Yankees. Giambi hit a ball over the shift for a one-out double down the right field line. Matsui hit a two-out single up the middle to score Giambi. 7-0 Yankees. Betemit strikes out looking to end the inning.
Third Inning
Damon lost a ball in the sun. There are no second and third decks in spring training fields, so it's much easier to lose a ball in the sun during this time. It is second and third for the Red Sox with no outs and Julio Lugo up. Jeter somehow ranged over to his left to get a grounder up the middle. A run scored on the play. 7-1 Yankees, with a runner at third and one out. Pettitte's pitch went right through Posada's legs, scoring the runner from third. 7-2 Yankees. Pedroia walked, as Pettitte is at 55 pitches on the afternoon. Pettitte went up and in to David Ortiz. Is this possible retaliation for Jeter's hit by pitch? Anyway, Pedroia got picked off first base.
The Yankees went quietly in the bottom half of the inning.
Fourth Inning
Kevin Youkilis led off with a solo home run over the left field wall. 7-3 Yankees. Lowell powered a pitch to nearly the same spot, but this one was caught by Damon. Pettitte's afternoon is done after 3 1-3 innings pitched. Heath Phillips came in and gave up a run. 7-4 Yankees.
Abreu led off with a double, followed by a single by Giambi. The run at third eventually scored. 8-4 Yankees
Fifth Inning

Liveblog: Pirates at Yankees
First Inning
Mike Mussina got Nyjer Morgan to strike out looking on a curveball. Mussina was hitting 85 m.p.h. with his fastball in this at-bat. Mussina retires the side in order. He induced a pop up to right and a fly out to center. His fastball didn't reach past 86 m.p.h.
Billy Crystal walked up to the plate to "Birthday" by The Beatles. He made contact, fouling a pitch to the right side, and the fans screamed. He worked the count to 3-1 but swung and missed at the last two pitches to strike out. The real Yankees, Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu, go down in order to end the inning.
Second Inning
Mussina gets Jason Bay to fly out to Abreu on an 88 m.p.h. fastball. That's good to see. Hideki Matsui catches an easy fly ball in left for his first putout of the spring. It was a little harder for Matsui this time. He had to run towards the foul line to catch Ryan Doumit's fly ball. Mussina is perfect through two.
The Yankees also get set down in order. Through two full innings, there hasn't be a baserunner. It's all Crystal's fault.
Third Inning
Mussina has looked very good so far. Through two outs in the third, he has thrown 33 pitches for 21 strikes. Shelley Duncan made a nice grab towards the line at first and flipped it to Mussina for the final out of the inning.
Jose Molina singles with one out to break up the overall perfect game. Johnny Damon is pinch hitting for Crystal (I never thought I'd ever have to write that). Damon grounds out to end the inning.
Fourth Inning
Mussina worked back from a 3-1 count to get Jack Wilson to fly out. Aside from this at-bat, Mussina has been throwing strikes and has been getting ahead of hitters. As I say that, he got ahead of Nate McLouth 0-2, but started to nibble. McLouth grounded out to first on a full count, keeping Mussina's perfect game in tact.
Alex Rodriguez almost hit Robin Williams will a foul ball. Abreu and Rodriguez struck out looking, while Jeter hit a line drive that was caught by a diving McLouth.
Fifth Inning
Mussina, at 52 pitches for 32 strikes, is out for a fifth inning of work. Bay grounded out to Jeter for the first out of the inning. Mussina got Adam LaRoche looking for the second out. The pitch looked a tad inside, but Mussina still got the call. Doumit worked the count to 3-1 before swinging and popping a pitch up to Jeter for the third out. Mussina is past 60 pitches and has retired all 15 batters he has faced.
Old friend Jaret Wright follows Paul Maholm. Matsui hit a leadoff double and was taken out for pinch runner Justin Christian. Robinson Cano hit a chopper to short that was slow enough to advance Christian to third with one out. Duncan hit a medium fly ball to left that wasn't far enough to score Christian. Molina broke his bat on a grounder to the right side to end the inning. I see the Yankees are still afraid to score on sacrifice flies, even in the spring.
Sixth Inning
Mussina came out of the game after throwing 64 pitches for 39 strikes. Figures Mariano Rivera gave up a single to the first batter he faced. He then gave up another single. These were the Pirates' first two batters of the game and the first two batters to reach base against Rivera this spring. The Pirates put on a sacrifice bunt play, and it was successful. Second and third, one out against Rivera. Morgan hit a hard grounder to Duncan. He checked Jose Bautista at third and tagged the bag for the second out. Bautista started running and turned back. Duncan threw home and had him caught in a run down and was eventually tagged out. Rivera escaped unharmed.
After Melky Cabrera singled, the rest of the Yankees went quietly. The game is still scoreless.
Seventh Inning
Jeff Karstens followed Rivera. McLouth hit a one-out double down the right field line. Bay followed and hit a single to left, scoring McLouth. 1-0 Pirates. Former buddy Doug Mientkiewicz hit a single, the third consecutive hit for the Pirates. Doumit was up next and hit another single to center. Brett Gardner made a strong throw in from center to cut down Bay, as Chad Moeller blocked the plate. Karstens is not making a good case to be the long reliever. He just walked Bautista to load the bases with two outs. Chris Gomez grounds out to end the inning.
I'll end the liveblog here. Most of the regulars have come out. I'll be back with a recap afterwards.

Liveblog: Blue Jays at Yankees
The game is on television, so I guess I'll give some updates.
Top of the First
Chien-Ming Wang hit 95 m.p.h. with his fastball and only allowed a two-out single to Vernon Wells, who was caught trying to steal second base to end the inning. He threw two hanging sliders to Wells, eventually singling on the second one. He will need to get that pitch down. He threw 16 pitches for eight strikes.
Bottom of the First
Melky Cabrera led off with a drag bunt single to third base. Nice to see that from Cabrera, who will be the leadoff hitter when Johnny Damon isn't playing. Derek Jeter worked a walk to bring up Bobby Abreu with runners on first and second with no outs. Abreu lined a pitch to the right-center field gap for a double, driving in both Cabrera and Jeter. 2-0 Yankees. Alex Rodriguez drilled a pitch to the same area, except about 30 feet further, for a two-run home run. 4-0 Yankees.
Top of the Second
Wang walked Scott Rolen on five pitches to lead off the inning. Not a good start when your team gives you four runs. Wang was able to get Frank Thomas to ground into a double play. It was hit slowly, but Thomas was running, so Rodriguez and Jeter were able to turn it. Wang is still throwing pitches high for the most part.
Bottom of the Second
Jose Molina singled and tried to score on an Abreu single to center. There was a close play at the plate and it looked like Molina got the hand in before the tag, but the home plate umpire thought differently. It is still 4-0 Yankees.
Top of the Third
There was a quirky play to end the inning. Matt Stairs hit a ball down the first base line. It was rolling foul and then kicked back into fair territory. Shelley Duncan was alert and picked it up and tagged the bag. Stairs was running down the line carrying his bat, obviously not expecting it to roll fair. Wang has passed 50 pitches through three innings.
Top of the Fourth
Wang is done after 3 2-3 innings. He struck out his final batter of the day. He gave up two hits and didn't allow any runs, so this is a major improvement from his last time out.
Bottom of the Fourth
Cabrera just doubled in Jason Lane. 5-0 Yankees. There are runners on second and third with no outs for Jeter. Jeter hit a medium fly ball to right that wasn't able to score the runner from third.
Top of the Fifth
Kyle Farnsworth gave up a walk and a hit but didn't allow a run to score. He still has a long way to go to regain my trust.

Liveblog: Twins at Yankees
Today's game can be seen on YES and ESPN. For those in offices, however, I will liveblog until the starters are out.
Check back here for updates throughout the afternoon.
Ian Kennedy will start for the Yankees and will pitch two or three innings. Joba Chamberlain will relieve him, and pitch another two or three innings.
Top of the First
Three wounded Iraq War veterans, the Wounder Warriors, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Kennedy threw the first pitch for a strike to Carlos Gomez. He lays down a bunt on the second pitch and is thrown out at first, after it was barehanded by Wilson Betemit at third. Brendan Harris laces a 2-1 pitch through the left side of the infield for a one-out single, bringing up Joe Mauer. Mauer grounds into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
Bottom of the First
Kevin Slowy, the Twins' minor league pitcher of the year, is starting today. Johnny Damon pops an 0-1 pitch to left fielder Delmon Young for the first out. Derek Jeter lines the first pitch to center field for a single, bringing up right fielder Bobby Abreu. Abreu hits a slow grounder to second base, forcing out Jeter. Abreu reaches on the fielder's choice. Alex Rodriguez, today's designated hitter, is up now. Rodriguez works the count full and eventually draws a walk. He swung and missed on two pitches this at-bat. Jason Giambi strikes out looking to end the inning, leaving two men on base.
Top of the Second
Justin Morneau leads off. He pops up a 3-2 changeup to Melky Cabrera in center for the first out of the inning. Young pounds a 3-1 pitch, over the wall slightly to the left of the 408 ft. sign in center field. 1-0 Twins. Third baseman Brian Buscher is up now. He is robbed by Giambi at first. He hit a 3-2 pitch on the screws and Giambi jumped to snare the line drive for the second out of the inning. Jon Knott grounds out to Jeter to end the inning. Jeter's throw was a little off, as Giambi had to come off the bag to tag Knott.
Bottom of the Second
Jorge Posada leads off. He flies out to left field, as Young almost got hit in the face with the ball after losing it in the sun. Robinson Cano follows Posada. He lines a pitch over Gomez's head in center and reaches with a double. Center field is getting a lot of action so far. Betemit drove a pitch to center field for a double, scoring Cano. 1-1. Cabrera strikes out swinging for the second out of the inning. With Damon batting, Slowey throws a wild pitch, allowing Betemit to advance to third. Damon grounds a pitch to center past a diving Harris for an RBI single. 2-1 Yankees.
Damon steals second base standing up, as the 0-2 pitch was in the dirt. Jeter come back from the 0-2 hole to draw a walk. First and second, two out for Abreu. Abreu lines a single to center and the throw home goes way past Mauer, scoring Damon. 3-1 Yankees. The runners also advance, as it's second and third with two out for Rodriguez. Rodriguez strikes out swinging to end the inning.
Top of the Third
Lefty Heath Phillips relieves Kennedy (I thought it was going to be Chamberlain). He tags out Garrett Jones along the first base line for the first out of the inning. Phillips gets Matt Tolbert to strike out swinging on an 88 m.p.h. fastball for the second out. Gomez breaks his bat as he grounds out to Jeter to end the inning.
Bottom of the Third
Julio DePaula comes in for the Twins, ending Slowey's outing. Giambi taps a single to left for a single to lead of the inning. DePaula balks, allowing Giambi to take second. Posada flies out to right on a 3-2 pitch for the first out of the inning. Cano bounces a single to center, scoring Giambi. 4-1 Yankees. Cano is out trying to advance to second on the throw for the second out of the inning. Betemit strikes out swinging to end the Yankees' threat.
Top of the Fourth
Chamberlain is in the game now. He falls behind 3-0 but gets Harris to ground out. Mauer grounds out to Giambi for the second out of the inning. Morneau draws a two-out walk. Chamberlain has fallen behind every batter so far. Chamberlain falls behind Morneau 3-2, but gets him to ground out to Betemit at third to end the inning. Chamberlain threw 19 pitches and went to a three-ball count on three of the four batters he faced.
Bottom of the Fourth
Randy Keisler, the former Yankee, is now in the game for the Twins. Cabrera strikes out for the second time today, swinging at a pitch way outside. Damon grounds out to second for the second out of the inning. Jeter grounds a ball off the second baseman's glove and into right field. Jeter takes second on a ball in the dirt. Abreu then pops up to center fielder Gomez to end the inning.
Top of the Fifth
Chamberlain is out there for a second inning of work. Buscher lines it to short right field for a leadoff single. Chamberlain gets Knott to strike out looking for the first out. Jones tees off on Chamberlain, blasting a two-run home run over the right field wall. 4-3 Yankees. Chamberlain has not looked at all this afternoon. Chamberlain hits Tolbert on the ankle and the next pitch. He has thrown 31 pitches through 1 1-3 innings. Chamberlain gets the next batter to fly out to Cabrera, as he had to run in hard to track down the ball. Harris grounds into a fielder's choice, as Cano flips to Jeter covering second to end the inning.
Bottom of the Fifth
Keisler is still in for the Twins. Rodriguez hits a deep fly ball that is caught in center for the first out of the inning. Giambi hits a ground ball into the hole between short and third and is thrown out for the second out. Giambi is running well this spring (for him) and was out by a step. Posada then grounds out to first to end the inning, as the Yankees go down 1-2-3 for the first time today.
Top of the Sixth
Jonathan Albaladejo is in for the Yankees now. The position players are starting to come out as well, as Colin Curtis and Jason Lane are in left and right, respectively, and Shelley Duncan is at first. Mauer doubles into the opposite-field gap to lead off the inning. Morneau flies out to center, and Jose Morales, running for Mauer, is thrown out trying to tag up from second. Cabrera still has that great arm that was shown off last season. Young hits a two-out single, bringing up Matt Macri. Albaladejo gets Macri to strike out swinging to end the inning.
Bottom of the Sixth
With Dennys Reyes pitching, Cano grounds a single up the middle to lead off the Yankees' threat. Bernie Castro comes in to run for Cano. Betemit hits a grounder to third, and Macri makes a bad throw to second, causing everyone to be safe. First and second, no out for Cabrera. He grounds into a 6-6-3 double play, advancing Castro to third base. Duncan is batting for the first time this game. He strikes out swinging to end the inning.
I think I'm going to end the liveblog here. It is 4-3 Yankees heading to the top of the seventh inning. I will be back with a recap of the game after it ends.

Time: 1:15 p.m.
Radio: Audio of the game may or may not be found here.
Joba Chamberlain will pitch two innings, followed by Ian Kennedy also for two, Phil Hughes, Kei Igawa, Jeff Marquez, Alan Horne and Chase Wright.
The professional schedule begins tomorrow, as the Yankees take on the Philadelphia Phillies. Chien-Ming Wang will face Adam Eaton. Sunday's game, also against the Phillies, can be seen on YES at 1:15 p.m. Andy Pettitte will match up against Cole Hamels.
UPDATES
1:15 p.m.: The game can indeed be heard on the above link in the "radio" section.
1:25 p.m.: I'm going to be around for the game, so I guess I'll liveblog until it gets boring. Goose Gossage threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Yankees last played USF in March of 1982.
Top of the First
Chamberlain retires the Bulls in order. There was a fly out to right, ground out to second and a fly out to left.
Bottom of the First
Damon flies out. Jeter gets hit by a pitch on his left thigh. Look for Chamberlain to retaliate. Abreu hits a single with Jeter running. First and third for Rodriguez with one out. Sac fly for Rodriguez, 1-0 Yankees. Abreu remains at first. Giambi flies out to center on the first pitch to end the inning.
Top of the Second
Chamberlain strikes out Hobbs swinging on three pitches. Manz pops out to Rodriguez for the second out. Rey strikes out on a full count and is thrown out at first after Posada dropped it. Two strikeouts for Chamberlain, and he is likely done for the afternoon. Kennedy is expected to come in for two innings.
Bottom of the Second
Zach Pietrzyk is now pitching for USF. Posada leads off with a stand-up double. Cano grounds out, moving Posada over to third. Duncan draws a walk. First and third, one out for Cabrera. Cabrera hits another sac fly for the Yankees, 2-0 Yankees.
Damon draws a walk. Jeter hits a ground ball that finds it way to left field, scoring Duncan. 3-0 Yankees. First and third for Abreu with two outs. Abreu walks, loading the bases for Rodriguez. Rodriguez hits a two-run single, giving him three RBI on the day. He really loves beating up on bad pitching, doesn't he? 5-0 Yankees.
Giambi flies out to center for the second time to end the inning.
Former buddy Tyler Clippard started for the Nationals. His progress was tracked by Nationals Journal. He gave up a solo home run in two innings of work.
Top of the Third
As expected, Kennedy has taken the mound. Cleveland lines out to Giambi on the first pitch. Kennedy strikes out Angelberger on an appeal. According to the announcers, the 3-1 pitch was outside, and Angelberger eventually struck out on the payoff pitch. Kocsco grounds out to Rodriguez. Nine up, nine down for the Bulls.
Bottom of the Third
Matt Stull is in for USF. Posada flies out to center to start the inning. Cano singles to left. Duncan flies out to left, two outs. Cabrera reaches on an infield single, first and second, two out for Damon. Damon lines out to left to end the inning.
Top of the Fourth
Consolmagno singles to center to break up the perfect game. The Bulls avoid the double play, as Consolmagno was in motion. Lockwood is out a first on a ground ball. Rodriguez throws out Maruszak and Consolmagno stays at second. Two out. Kennedy strikes out Hobbs swinging to end the inning and end Kennedy's afternoon. Hughes should be in next for one inning.
Bottom of the Fourth
Jeter grounds out to his counterpart on the first pitch. Abreu walks, bringing up Rodriguez. Rodriguez walks as well. Giambi chops one for a fielder's choice. First and third with two out for Posada. Posada hits a two-run triple, and now has two extra-base hits on the day. He hit the ball off the wall and the ball rolled for a while, explaining how Posada reached third. 7-0 Yankees.
Cano reaches on a Maruszak error, scoring Posada. 8-0 Yankees. Stull balks, allowing Cano to advance to second. Duncan drives Cano home on a single. 9-0 Yankees. Cabrera singles, bringing up Damon. This is the second time that the Yankees have batted around. Damon reaches on an infield single to load the bases. Alberto Gonzalez is pinch hitting for Jeter. He grounds out to second to end the inning.
Top of the Fifth
Hughes is set to come in. After his inning of work, I will stop liveblogging. The Yankees are starting to empty the bench and it is a 9-0 game.
Cody Ransom is in at third, Nick Green is at second, Austin Jackson is in center, Colin Curtis is in right, Justin Christian is playing left and Morgan Ensberg is at first.
Hughes has struck out the first two Bulls he has faced. Curtis makes a sliding catch in right to end the inning. 9-0 Yankees and I am done for the afternoon.

Johnny Damon DH | Jerry Owens CF |
Derek Jeter SS | Tadahito Iguchi 2B |
Bobby Abreu RF | Jim Thome DH |
Alex Rodriguez 3B | Jermaine Dye RF |
Jorge Posada C | A.J. Pierzynski C |
Hideki Matsui LF | Paul Konerko 1B |
Robinson Cano 2B | Rob Mackowiak LF |
Melky Cabrera CF | Juan Uribe SS |
Miguel Cairo 1B | Alex Cintron 3B |
Tyler Clippard (2-1, 4.20) | Mark Buehrle (2-2, 3.66) |
Time: 8:11 p.m., 7:11 p.m. CDT (Yes, 7-Eleven sponsors the first pitch time)
TV: YES
Radio: WCBS-AM 880
Pregame concerns: Yankees called up INF Chris Basak and LHP Sean Henn and demoted OF Kevin Thompson and RHP Matt DeSalvo. ... Clippard has never faced the White Sox. ... Buehrle is 1-4 with a 6.42 ERA over 6 starts and 33 2-3 innings pitched against the Yankees in his career. ... The game updates can be seen after clicking "Continue reading" in the blog entry so as not to clutter the main page.
Game updates:
9:01 p.m.: The Yankees have grounded into three double plays.
9:08 p.m.: On a ground ball to Jeter, Dye advances to second, and then takes third because no one was covering. Here we go again. Runner at third, one out.
9:14 p.m.: Mackowiak hits an RBI single. 1-0 White Sox going to the top of the fifth.
9:20 p.m.: Cano has been very hot lately. Abreu and he are finally starting to hit. Too bad Jeter is slumping.
9:23 p.m.: Oh wow, Cairo hits a clutch two-out RBI single to tie the game.
9:43 p.m.: After a Damon leadoff double, Jeter bunted for a single. Abreu hits an RBI single, and Jeter goes to third. 2-1 Yankees, runners at first and third, no out. By the way, I love the booth with Paul O'Neill and Joe Girardi, even though Michael Kay is still there.
9:48 p.m.: Rodriguez doubles to center, scoring Jeter. 3-1 Yankees. Posada hits a sacrifice fly to right field. Dye almost threw Abreu out. 4-1 now.
9:50 p.m.: Matsui singles home Rodriguez. An offensive explosion!
9:56 p.m.: Joe "Quick Hook" Torre has taken out Clippard. Scott Proctor is in now. Bottom of the sixth, 5-1 Yankees.
9:58 p.m.: Cairo is having a great game at first base tonight. I say, keep starting him. He can't be as bad as Phelps at the plate, and he's already proving himself worthy in the field.
10:04 p.m.: Damon has three hits tonight, and Jeter has two. The Yankees have second and third with one out in the top of the seventh.
10:06 p.m.: Damon was caught in a rundown between third and home. Great. Rodriguez hits an opposite bloop for a single, scoring Jeter. 6-1.
10:43 p.m.: Kyle Farnsworth has loaded the bases with one out in the eighth. He's a loser.
10:49 p.m.: He gets out of it only allowing one run. Going to the top of the ninth, 6-2 Yankees.
10:56 p.m.: Rodriguez just hit a ball more than half-way up the bleachers at U.S. Cellular. 7-2 Yankees.
11:12 p.m.: Brian Bruney loads the bases with one out, and now Mariano Rivera has to come in.
11:19 p.m.: Rivera closes the door, giving up a sacrifice fly in the process. Yankees win 7-3.

Liveblog: Yankees at White Sox 6/4/07
Lineups
New York Yankees (24-30) | Chicago White Sox (25-27) |
Johnny Damon DH | Jerry Owens CF |
Derek Jeter SS | Tadahito Iguchi 2B |
Bobby Abreu RF | Jim Thome DH |
Alex Rodriguez 3B | Jermaine Dye RF |
Jorge Posada C | A.J. Pierzynski C |
Hideki Matsui LF | Paul Konerko 1B |
Robinson Cano 2B | Rob Mackowiak LF |
Josh Phelps 1B | Juan Uribe SS |
Melky Cabrera CF | Joe Crede 3B |
Matt DeSalvo (1-2, 5.40) | Jon Garland (3-3, 3.91) |
Time: 7:05 p.m.
TV: YES, ESPN
Radio: WCBS-AM 880
Pregame concerns: They say momentum is as good as your next day's starting pitcher. That said, DeSalvo is starting today for the Yankees. In his last start against the White Sox, DeSalvo gave up four runs in 3 1-3 innings. ... Dye hit a home run and had three RBIs against DeSalvo. ... In seven starts against the Yankees, Garland is 2-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 47 1-3 innings. ... The game updates can be seen after clicking "Continue reading" in the blog entry so as not to clutter the main page.
Game updates:
7:28 p.m.: On a 3-2 count, Jeter gets an early jump and Abreu lines a ball in the gap for a one out double. Jeter scores, 1-0 Yankees.
7:33 p.m.: Rodriguez strikes out, and the ball gets away from Pierzynski. As he is running down the line, the throw from Pierzynski hits Rodriguez. However, he is called out for running outside the baseball. Replays show it was a bad call.
8:05 p.m.: With the bases loaded an no out, Rodriguez fields the ball, steps on third, and pulls Phelps off first base. One run scores, and there are runners at first and second with one out. 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
8:07 p.m.: Ground ball to Phelps. He throws the ball into left field, and a run scores. Jeter is down after being taken out by Crede and second base. He appears to be OK and is staying in the game. 2-1 White Sox.
8:08 p.m.: Iguchi singles to center, scoring Crede. DeSalvo is coming out of the game in favor of Ron Villone. 3-1 White Sox. This game will most likely be a loss, and the bullpen will be burned out for the rest of the series.
8:36 p.m.: Villone has been pitching decently over 1 2-3 innings so far. Still 3-1 White Sox, heading to the top of the fourth.
8:42 p.m.: Phelps has hit into two double plays. Yes, he can hit into them, but he can't complete them in the field.
8:49 p.m.: Two-run home run for Thome. 5-1. I love how we beat the Red Sox two out of three and now this happens tonight. This team is NOT a playoff team.
8:55 p.m.: A Chris "Great" Britton sighting! I didn't even know what number he wore.
9:19 p.m.: Rodriguez, after hitting a one-out double, gets doubled off of second base on a Posasda line out. Going to the bottom of the sixth, 5-1 White Sox. It is getting late early for the Yankees.
9:24 p.m.: Great Britton has retired all eight batters he has faced. Thanks, Joe Torre, for finally using him. They better not send him down when the next move needs to be made.
9:49 p.m.: Great Britton gave up a solo home run to Konerko and was taken out of the game. He pitched a solid three innings before that hiccup. Now, he will probably never be used and be sent down to AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
9:52 p.m.: Yankees go down quietly in the eighth. This is pathetic.
10:02 p.m.: Red Sox fans take notice: Garland's performance tonight warranted a standing ovation. Josh Beckett's performance last night did not.
10:16 p.m.: The Yankees stage a very late comeback, but fall short and lose 6-4.

Johnny Damon DH | Julio Lugo SS |
Derek Jeter SS | Dustin Pedroia 2B |
Bobby Abreu RF | David Ortiz DH |
Alex Rodriguez 3B | Manny Ramirez LF |
Jorge Posada C | Kevin Youkilis 1B |
Hideki Matsui LF | Mike Lowell 3B |

Andy Pettitte (3-4, 2.51) | Josh Beckett (8-0, 2.65) |
Time: 8:05 p.m.
TV: ESPN
Radio: WCBS 880
Pregame concerns: Matt DeSalvo will pitch on Monday if the game is played tonight. Rain has been threatening all day in Boston. ... Clemens is looking to start on Saturday against Pittsburgh in the Bronx. ... Varitek and Youkilis have both homered off of Pettitte this season, and Youkilis is 4-7 against Pettitte. ... The Yankees have had a lot of trouble scoring in support of Pettitte this season. ... Beckett has been dominant so far this year, but his worst outing of the year was against the Yankees on April 21. ... Doug Mientkiewicz will be out 6-8 weeks (source). ... I will be watching Entourage at 10 tonight. I'm sure it'll be more entertaining than tonight's game. ... We're trying something new here at SPA. The game updates can be seen after clicking "Continue reading" in the blog entry so as not to clutter the main page.
Game updates:
7:41 p.m.: I'm thrilled we get to listen to Jon Miller and Joe Morgan after listening to Joe Buck and Tim McCarver yesterday. I hate it when the Yankees are on national TV.
8:16 p.m.: Listening to Miller and Morgan, you would think Beckett is God's gift to the earth.
8:27 p.m.: Peter Gammons is still harping on the defective baseball.
8:41 p.m.: Phelps hits an RBI single. 1-0 Yankees.
9:01 p.m.: Great, Jeter is seen limping after fouling a ball off his ankle.
9:18 p.m.: Stop talking about A-Rod's private life!!!
9:37 p.m.: Wow, these clowns really can't get enough of Rodriguez. This broadcast is painful to watch, and the Yankees are winning (for now).
9:47 p.m.: With the bases loaded, Rodriguez hits a chopper to Lowell. He barehands the ball and the throw gets away from Youkilis. Two runs score on the play. 3-0 Yankees.
9:49 p.m.: Posada singles to right, scoring Abreu. 4-0 Yankees.
9:56 p.m.: Entourage time.
10:27 p.m.: Good thing I stopped watching. Pettitte did his best Mike Mussina impression and gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth. 5-4 Red Sox. Luis Vizcaino is in the game now.
10:40 p.m.: Wow, Posasda actually blocked the plate, preventing a run from scoring. 5-4 Red Sox going to the top of the seventh.
10:47 p.m.: What did Beckett do to deserve leaving to a standing ovation?
10:58 p.m.: Rodriguez has runners on at first and third with a full count. He pops out to Lugo. Ugh.
11:15 p.m.: Top of the eighth...
11:21 p.m.: Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Hideki Okajima has just blown the save. He allowed a single to Matsui and Cano just tripled off of the center field wall. 5-5 now, and the Yankees have a runner on at third and no outs.
11:26 p.m.: Ugh, Phelps struck out and Melky grounds out to third. Cano is still at third base with two outs. Damon is up.
11:28 p.m.: And they can't score. Wow.
11:43 p.m.: Abreu actually made a game-saving catch in right center. 5-5 going to the top of the ninth.
11:54 p.m.: An A-BOMB for A-ROD. Yankees take a 6-5 lead off Papelbon in the ninth.
12:14 a.m.: Mariano Rivera slams the door shut by striking out Lowell. Yankees win 6-5.

Liveblog: Yankees at Red Sox 6/2/07
Lineups
Yankees (23-29)
Bobby Abreu - RF
Derek Jeter - SS
Hideki Matsui - LF
Alex Rodriguez - 3B
Jorge Posada - DH
Robinson Cano - 2B
Melky Cabrera - CF
Doug Mientkiewicz - 1B
Wil Nieves - C
Mike Mussina - RHP (2-3, 5.86 ERA)
Red Sox (36-17)
Julio Lugo - SS
Dustin Pedroia - 2B
David Oritz - DH
Manny Ramirez - LF
Kevin Youkilis - 1B
Mike Lowell - 3B
Jason Varitek - C
Wily Mo Pena - RF
Coco Crisp - CF
Curt Schilling - RHP (5-2, 3.68 ERA)
Time: 3:55 p.m.
TV: FOX
Radio: WCBS-AM 880
Pregame concerns: Mussina struggled in his last start against the Red Sox (6 2-3 innings, 10 H, 7 ER). He won't blow anyone away with his fastball, so he needs to spot it perfectly. ... Lowell is 9-17 against Mussina. Ramirez is 23-93 off Mussina, but has 6 HR. ... I am not thrilled with the Yankees lineup, but Mussina has does well with Nieves as his catcher.
Prediction: I am discontinuing the prediction segment.
3:01 p.m.: Scott Proctor won't be suspended (source).
4:07 p.m.: Thank you, FOX, for allowing the world's ugliest man (Julian Tavarez) to read the Red Sox lineup.
4:16 p.m.: After allowing two 1-out singles, Mussina gets Ramirez to ground out into a double play.
4:19 p.m.: How many asinine comments will it take for FOX to fire Tim McCarver? "In his walk year, he's done everything but walk," he said.
4:22 p.m.: Cabrera sneaks one around the Pesky Pole. 1-0 Yankees.
4:45 p.m.: Red Sox tie the game at 1 after a Pena double, Crisp sacrifice, and Lugo ground out.
4:49 p.m.: "This is ourrrrrrr country."
4:58 p.m.: Difference between the Yankees and Red Sox: We have Rudy Giuliani sitting by our dugout. The Red Sox have Ben Affleck sitting by theirs.
5:05 p.m.: After a leadoff walk to Ortiz and a double to Ramirez, the Red Sox have two on and no out. We are now in a rain delay.
5:22 p.m.: BREAKING NEWS: RAWJAH CLEMENS will not pitch on Monday, after hurting his groin in his final minor league start (source).
5:33 p.m.: Play is about to resume, and Mussina is still on the mound.
5:40 p.m.: Red Sox take a 2-1 lead after a Lowell RBI single. The bases are still loaded with no out. Kei Igawa will start on Monday. Why? Who knows.
5:42 p.m.: A ground ball to Cano, he goes to tag Lowell who proceeds to ram his body into Cano. He was able to make a bounce throw to Mientkiewicz to complete the double play. 3-1 Red Sox. If Rodriguez did that, everyone would whine and say that was a dirty play. Meanwhile, McCarver is applauding Lowell, saying it is a perfectly legal play and that what Rodriguez did to Pedroia was dirty, as he had already thrown the ball, while Lowell was preventing the ball from being thrown.
6:14 p.m.: Posada hits a 3-run HR to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth.
6:31 p.m.: Mussina ALWAYS does this. After the Yankees take a 5-3 lead, he gives up back-to-back home runs to Lowell and Varitek. Now Joe Torre is taking him out.
6:36 p.m.: Oh dear God, Mike Myers is warming up for Ortiz. When will Torre learn that this never works?
6:40 p.m.: Solid inning by the Namesake to keep it a 5-5 game.
6:49 p.m.: Captain Clutch hits a solo home run over the monster to give the Yankees a 6-5 lead. The bullpen needs to hold this lead.
7:04 p.m.: Abreu is so soft in the outfield. He should have easily caught that ball by Ortiz near the wall. Instead, it went for a leadoff double.
7:10 p.m.: Bases loaded, no out. Ground ball to Cano, flips to Jeter, and Jeter makes a bad throw to Mientkiewicz. Two runs score, and Mientkiewicz is down. 7-6 Red Sox.
7:13 p.m.: Looking at the replays, Lowell's leg collided with Mientkiewicz's head. They are now bringing out a cart.
7:21 p.m.: Jeter lets a double play ball (which would have ended the inning) go through his legs, which now leads to an RBI single. 8-6 Red Sox. The Yankees have had three leads and have given all of them up.
7:27 p.m.: 10-6. I give up.

Liveblog: Yankees at Blue Jays 5/29/07
Lineups
Yankees (21-28)
Johnny Damon - CF
Derek Jeter - SS
Hideki Matsui - LF
Alex Rodriguez - 3B
Jorge Posada - C
Jason Giambi - DH
Bobby Abreu - RF
Doug Mientkiewicz - 1B
Robinson Cano - 2B
Andy Pettitte - LHP (3-3, 2.66 ERA)
Blue Jays (23-27)
Alex Rios - RF
Lyle Overbay - 1B
Vernon Wells - CF
Frank Thomas - DH
Aaron Hill - 2B
Jason Phillips - C
Royce Clayton - CF
Adam Lind - LF
John McDonald - 3B
Shaun Marcum - RHP (2-2, 4.33 ERA)
Time: 7:07 p.m.
TV: YES
Radio: WCBS-AM 880
Pregame concerns: Yankees are winless since I started the blog. ... Wells owns Pettitte (10-20, 1 HR, 5 RBI).
Prediction: Yankees lose 3-1. Pettitte pitches well, but the Yankees continue the trend and don't score for him.
7:24 p.m.: Here we go again. The Yankees are already down 1-0 after a Rios single and a Jeter throwing error, a steal of third, and a ground out. At least Michael Kay isn't calling the game.
7:31 p.m.: Giambi finally hits the ball to the left side of the infield to beat the shift for an infield single. He should've been doing this for 5 years now.
7:34 p.m.: Jason Giambi: track star. After getting the infield single, the Yankees send Giambi on a 3-2 count with Bobby Abreu at the plate. He strikes out swinging, Giambi is safe at second base, and takes third on an error on the shortstop.
9:05 p.m.: Giambi homered off Scott Downs earlier in the seventh inning to tie the game. The score is now 1-1.
9:18 p.m.: Hill steals home to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The Yankees are like the New York Giants: they are finding new ways to lose.
9:27 p.m.: Yankees get two men on, on two errors. However, Matsui flied to center for the first out. Runners at first and second, one out for Posada.
9:29 p.m.: Posada singles over the head of Hill to drive home Jeter. The score is now 2-2.
9:39 p.m.: This just in: Bobby Abreu sucks.
9:42 p.m.: After a leadoff double and sacrifice bunt, there is a runner at third and one out. Pettitte is coming out and Scott Proctor is coming in. Personally, I would've gone with Brian Bruney here. He has a better chance of getting a strikeout here.
9:47 p.m.: Proctor induces a fly ball to center field for a sacrifice fly. Of course Damon and his girl arm doesn't even attempt to throw home. 3-2 Blue Jays. I still think Bruney should've come in.
9:50 p.m.: I'm getting sick of YES showing commercials for the Roger Clemens Yankeeography and classic games. Clemens signing with the Yankees was a big deal three weeks ago. It isn't anymore. As I write this, Josh Phelps just struck out for the first out in the top of the ninth.
9:55 p.m.: Yankees go down 1-2-3 in the ninth. They have now lost five in a row, and are 0-for the blog. They managed to waste another good performance by Pettitte, who is now 3-4 and did not deserve this loss.
Game recap to come eventually.

Pregame concerns: The bottom three of the Yankees' lineup is inept. ... Mussina is what is preventing the Yankees from being swept in this series. In his last start against Boston on Tuesday, his fastball did not go above 88 mph. ... In 46 at-bats against Mussina, Shea Hillenbrand is batting .326 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. I wonder why he's not in the lineup today. Figgins is 8-16 against Mussina. However, Guerrero is only 4-21 against the Moose. I'm sure those numbers will get better today.
Prediction: Yankees fall behind early and don't recover. They lose like 8-2 or something.
1:10 p.m.: Moose throws all fastballs to Willits leading off. The fastest pitch was a 3-2 87 mph pitch down and away that Willits whiffed at.
1:17 p.m.: Mussina strikes out the side. He got Willits swinging, Cabrera looking, and Guerrero swinging.
1:47 p.m.: Do my eyes deceive me? Nieves hits an RBI single over Figgins' head. He is now 2-28 on the season. 1-0 Yankees.
1:52 p.m.: Jeter was hitting .609 with runners in scoring position and two outs before flying out to Matthews Jr.
2:20 p.m.: Nieves gets hit second RBI single of the day after a good acting job by Mientkiewicz. The ball bounced right in front of his foot and started jumping around pretending that he got hit by the pitch. 2-0 Yankees.
2:34 p.m.: Mussina has a penchant for giving up runs right after the Yankees score. A hard hit ball went off his glove and into center field and then a bloop went over Cano's head. After Kendrick grounded into a double play, Napoli singled in a run. After Quinlan singled Napoli over to third, Mussina was able to strike out Figgins. 2-1 Yankees going to the bottom of the fifth.
2:58 p.m.: Mussina is coming out of the game after walking Kotchman. He pitched 6 1-3 innings, struck out six, and walked one. The Namesake is in the game now.
3:13 p.m.: Scott Proctor comes in, loads the bases, and just walked in the tying run. Mussina did not need to be taken out after surrendering a one out walk. Proctor just walked in another run. 3-2 Angels. Now Joe Torre is going to Brian Bruney. Great decision to take out Mussina.
3:20 p.m.: Bruney gives up a sacrifice fly and Erick Aybar was tagged out in a rundown. 4-2 Angels going to the bottom of the seventh.
3:33 p.m.: Nieves walks and Jeter doubles. Two on, two out for Matsui. He grounds out to first. Going to the top of the eighth, 4-2 Angels.
3:35 p.m.: You know it's a bad game when Nieves is a player of the game nominee on YES.
3:49 p.m.: Giambi is 3-49. Lackey has gone through eight innings, holding the Yankees to two runs.
4:17 p.m.: The Yankees decide to wake up for the ninth inning. They scratch across a run off Francisco Rodriguez before Jeter flew out to end the game. Rodriguez, of course, celebrated like he had never saved a game before. Yankees lose 4-3.
Game recap to come eventually.
